If you’re planning a beach wedding, let’s talk about shoes - because the sand doesn’t always play nice when it comes to your dream footwear.
We get this question all the time from brides about what shoes to wear for a beach ceremony, and the answer depends on a few key factors, like whether you’ll be standing directly in the sand, walking on a platform, or switching locations between the ceremony and the reception.
If your ceremony’s directly in the sand, you’ve got a few options: barefoot, simple flat sandals, or delicate “feet jewelry” that sort of wraps around your ankle and toe. Just be mindful, some foot jewelry with prongs could snag your dress.

Flat sandals tend to be the safest option if you’re on uneven or hot sand, especially if there isn’t an aisle platform in place. On the other hand, if your ceremony setup does include a hard-surface platform (think wood or concrete), you can absolutely wear block heels, wedges, or even stilettos if you’re feeling extra glam!

If you hem the dress to graze the ground while barefoot, it’ll look too short with heels. That’s why we always suggest choosing your footwear before getting your alterations for the gown. Or you could even consider wearing one dress for the ceremony and swapping it out for a shorter hemline for the reception so you don’t have to compromise on style or comfort!
The bottom line is that your wedding look should work with the environment, not against it. Prioritize comfort, consider the terrain, and make sure your dress and shoes are in harmony.
